Although we have been members of his fellowship for a just short time, we have been there long enough to be influenced by Bro. John's sweet spirit and unwavering faith. The last time Bro. John was at church, he shook my (Sis. Laura's) hand, and felt that it was cold. He turned to Bro. Will and said, "You better hold your wife's hand!" Thank the Lord for a pastor who demonstrated Christ's love in his own life so well. It was obvious that Sis. Diana and Bro. John shared a special love, which was extended not only to their children but also to their whole church family. Bro. John has left an amazing legacy of kindness, temperance and abounding love. He will be dearly missed, but we rejoice knowing that he is with his Savior and Friend, King Jesus! May the Spirit of Peace comfort Sis. Diana and the entire Stemen family, as they rest in the Hope that we will all be together again in "just a little while."

~Bro. Will and Sis. Laura Gates

Brother John was such an amazing example of what a Christian should be. He was so filled with the Holy Ghost. His sermons were always simple but so powerful. His life - his testimony - was the most powerful sermon of all. Even when he was sick, he always had a joke or a handshake, a big grin, and a "God bless you" for me; he never complained. I loved him a lot and I certainly will miss him... But I know he's much, much happier now and I'm waiting for the day when we can join him! I love you all and may God bless you and comfort you.

Our prayers are with you through this time! Bro. John has been my pastor for almost 5 years and he was such humble amazing man who set such a good example and loved his church very much. When he was sick, and all he wanted to do was be at church, that touched my heart because I know I want to be like that! I am glad he is in a better place and can't wait till we can be up there with him! We love you all!

While my heart is saddened by the tremendous loss of our dear pastor (I miss him so much), my heart also rejoices in knowing that he is now resting at home, shouting on the hills of Glory! VICTORY. HALLELUJAH! He can now run as fast and as long as he wants, and now has perfect hearing. No more of those "man made devices" to help him along. While we loved to have him here with us on Earth, its even more a beautiful thought at where he is now. Makes me even more homesick! Can't wait to see him again. Sister Diana, and all of the Stemen Family, we love you so much, and stand with you during this time. Lord bless you! Love you.

"Here, Oh here is one Rugged Soldier". What a blessing to know that our precious Bro. John has made it home. Truly I will miss his smiling face. The very first time I visited his church, he said, "I'd like that little colored sister to come up and sing whatever is on her heart." He reminded me of the prophet. I've often thought of this and smiled. My thoughts and prayers are with Sis. Diana, the family, and the church family. God bless you.

Dear Diana and the entire Stemen family; "How blessed are we who put our faith in God"! No matter how difficult it is to bear the pain of parting, we have His promise that one day we will be reunited with those who have gone before us to our heavenly home---Brother John, my parents Andrew and Verda, as well as my sister Carol Joy. It is our real home, a joyous place, filled with beauty, peace and love forever. In your time of loss may God's promises bring you peace and comfort in the sure knowledge that you will be together again in that heavenly home.
